Presenting your whole life on three sheets of paper is never going to be easy.
Starfish Recruitment only uses CVs in conjunction with in-house interview notes and a personal assessment of the suitability of an individual to a specific vacancy. We often rewrite/tailor CVs to emphasise the particular aspects of your ability a client is looking for.
With regards to the CV you send us, we hope the following points are useful:
- Curriculum Vitae, please note the spelling. One in ten CVs still come into Starfish with the first two words spelt incorrectly. Note spell checks do not always work on Titles.
- Reverse chronological work experience is the industry standard.
- Avoid writing in the first person (except in the cover letter)
- Three pages max, more detail on the most recent work.
- Concise Personal profiles.
- More than three hobbies mean you're not working hard enough in your day job.
- The number of times a designer uses the word 'creative' on their CV, is usually in reverse proportion to their creativity.
- Don't lie, you'll get caught out.
- Make sure the dates work out/don't conflict.
- A4, white paper, readable typeface.
As creative designers, you will want your CV to reflect your creativity. We understand and appreciate this. However to make life easier for our clients, Starfish has a set format for CVs.
We present all the relevant information in a consistent manner to make it easier for our clients to cross reference them. We are, after all, in the business of making our clients life easier. The personal element of the CV comes from our individually written Consultants Interview notes. We can also enclose copies of examples of your work if required. We prefer these as PDF's so we can send them in original format without loss in quality of reproduction.
